While we at Council are out there looking for opportunities to set up community gardens we have one in our own back yard that was clearly ahead of it’s time when built would you believe 30 years ago. Yes! Yet another storey of outstanding achievement in our own back yard.

This garden may actually be Australia’s oldest community garden.

I recently received an invitation to attend an open night at the Black Forest Primary School to celebrate the 30th birthday of their Community Garden.

This garden is an inspiring organic food producing garden that received in 2011 from the KESAB Sustainable Communities and Sustainable Cities Awards, an award for “food garden and outstanding school”.

 The celebrations will be on the 30th of this month, between 5.00pm and 8.00pm.
